Congrats to recent North Carolina State University graduate Allison Walker recipient of the 2022 Blanton Outstanding Capstone Award! Allison completed an NSURP project during summer 2021, which developed into a capstone thesis! Allison will head to her first national conference in August (Ecological Society of America) while also preparing a manuscript for peer review on microbial-climate change feedbacks! 100% virtual! We're so proud of you!!!
ECU's Dept. of Biology hosts Earth Day Expo 2022. Daniya, Ana, Michelle, and Colin work with scientists-in-training to set up Winogradsky columns (microbial ecology in a bottle). Play in the mud was a big hit!
Aied and Colin work with FSU undergraduates students Markis, Sarina, and Akili to culture soil bacterial isolates, run PCR, and set up Winogradsky columns!
Ivan, Scott, and Surinder present posters at ECU's Research and Creative Achievements Week! Congrats to Scott and Ivan for receiving a RCAW 2022 poster award for the Natural Science Undergrad Poster presentation!!!
It's been a busy few weeks of packing and unpacking and organizing! We're lab lunching in the courtyard of the new digs.
We're in the eighteenth year of the experiment! Thanks to all the folks who helped rake the mowed plots! Check out WetlandEcoEx for more info!
We're all moved into the new lab space ad sciencing! Ana, Charlotte, Ivan, and Scott are quickly settling into lab activities.
Allison Walker presented poster "Nutrient enrichment modifies soil bacterial composition and plant productivity to disrupt wetland carbon storage" at the 2021 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students. This work is a continuation of Allison's summer NSURP project.
Brian, Tom, and AP search through the productive (and often spikey and ticky) coastal wetland to find hidden PVC installed for greenhouse gas sampling. SCIENCE!
Allison did an AWESOME job presenting her summer project! It was such a fun summer working together! Peralta labbies helping labbies - such a supportive and thoughtful practice session to help Allison get ready for the NSURP talk. ![]() Daniya and Aied presented posters during live sessions at the conference and special poster session with the Microbial Ecology Section! AP presents INSPIRE talk and co-leads sessions on microbial community coalescence. Fun was had by all!
