Colin, Brian, Mahesh, and AP get out on a not-so-cold December day to sample agricultural soils along a salinity gradient. The team measured nitrogen removal capacity via denitrification enzyme assays back in the lab. Stay tuned to more updates on the watershed resilience project in 2023!
Aied Garcia and Daniya Stephens successfully defend their MS Biology thesis projects!!! So proud of all their accomplishments, and were so very lucky to work with these amazing scientists over the years!
The experiment is in year 20!!! We are so lucky to have this awesome long-term ecological experiment so close to campus. Thanks to Dr. Carol Goodwillie for starting and keeping this experiment going strong!!! Thanks to Colin, Brian, Ivan, and Tom (not pictured) for getting soil sampling done! Thanks to Aied, Daniya, Glory, and Kai for all the lab support!
MS biology student Colin Finlay and undergrads Scott Siebor and Kai Davis present work on wetland microbial ecology! There was such great science presented by early career microbiologists. Can't wait until next year's meeting!
Congrats to Kai Davis for receiving the Jim Brown Poster Award at the 2023 ASM NC Branch Meeting!!! Way to go, Kai!!!
AP leads first in person ESA Council meeting with reps from all ESA sections and chapters as Speaker of Council along side past speaker Dan Stover and speaker elect Lin Meng. We had a productive chat about ways to build community across ESA sections and chapters.
A little lab outing with lab folks and friend of peraltalab to boba tea place and lab lunch (on different days!) - there was some sciencing done during both days :)!
Juliana Cerny from Univ. of Virginia (mentored by AP and Randall Etheridge) and Thi Tran from Rutgers Univ. (mentored by AP and Greg Howard) joined the 2022 NSF-supported Resilience and Adaptation to Coastal Change Across Communities (C2C) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) at the Coastal Studies Institute, East Carolina University Outer Banks Campus, Wanchese, NC.
